Australia is considered to be one of the world’s major ‘immigration nations’. Australia has a rich cultural diversity, which began with the first fleet. Multiculturalism is central to the Australian identity as a country.

So why did people migrate to Australia?

They migrated to Australia for different reasons:

• Freedom

• A Better Life

• War and Conflict

• Family

• Disaster

And they migrated to Australia from many different places.

This site will explore the different ways that people have come to Australia and their individual migration experiences. To respect this multicultural society, it’s our responsibility to recall these historical events and understand people’s choices during that time.
